The words of a language are like the bricks of a house. The more the bricks and the more secure they are, the more stable the house is. How can you learn words effectively?

Not in the classical way. Namely, you write the new word on the left side of your notebook, and then you write the meaning of the word on the right side. This is a bad method, because this way you learn the words in isolation, in real life they never occur this way.
Furthermore, this method is also of limited use because a word can have countless meanings depending on the context.
Finally because in this way you will associate the foreign word with the Hungarian word, not the meaning. The main aim should be that if the German word “das Wasser” (water) is uttered, in our minds the picture of the water should appear

The Right Method
Always learn whole expressions! What’s more, if the expression is very complex, you can make a sentence with it, and you can learn that.
Another piece of advice: for the making of these sentences rely on your own experiences, the closer the sentence is to your experience, the quicker and better you will learn the expression.
It is worth noting down and learning the opposite of the new word as well, because this way your mind has something to associate the meaning with. It is important to use the learnt words actively, because the more you use a word, the easier, the more natural becomes the usage.

And an extra tip
Learn a new language the way almost like you’ve learnt your mother tongue: by reading, listening to music, watching TV, news and films in on the language that you wish to learn, because on these occasions the language unobtrusively enters into your mind. This way you can learn a lot of expressions, because the context helps, and in using that, the meaning is easily deduced.
