English, is the most widespread language in the world, and so is a very powerful asset for anyone who speaks it, both socially and in business. Speaking English well makes any individual more employable and having English speaking employees is an advantage for any employer. Now, of course, it is increasingly useful on the internet where over half of all traffic is in English. “English opens doors” to more people as friends and for business.......
Why is that?......The English language originated in Britain, and is now spoken in so many places, by so many people, largely because the British, living on islands, have explored and travelled by sea extensively for the last 500 years. The British traded with and historically sought power in every continent.
The population of Britain is 65 million, but there are more than one billion people who speak English around the world, approximately 15% of the world's population, speaking English in every continent. There are now more people speaking English as a second language than speaking English as a first language, and ‘experts’ expect that the English language will develop even faster now as there are many more people introducing new words into daily use!
